Have you ever struggled with the feelings that I’m never enough? Not smart enough. Not outgoing enough. Not interesting enough? I could never become a mentor.
Attempting new things can stretch you outside of your comfort zone.
When I met my first mentor, she too was new to the whole mentoring relationship process herself. We were on this mentoring journey together.
After meeting together a few times, she helped me realize how God was right in the center of my life. I always thought God was for church . . . for Sundays . . . but as we went along I discovered I had it all wrong. God cared about my entire life on a daily basis. My messiness. My questions. My dreams. My fears.
As a result, over the last 35 years, I have poured my life into women of all ages sharing my heart and passion for God and helping them navigate through tough times and decisions in life. It has been a life-changing experience.
FACT
One-fact remains the same year after year the next generation desperately needs the mature Christian to reach out and mentor them.

NOT AN OPTION
Pouring into others and mentoring them is not an option. It’s God will for us to teach and spend time with the younger generations. Paul mentions this concept and command in Titus 2 for every mature believer.

Are we willing to rearrange our schedules to allow God to use us in his mighty plan to reach others?
We were given an excellent mentoring role model in the life of Jesus was his twelve disciples and his followers.
COME AS YOU ARE
Following Jesus isn’t a self-improvement project. He simply says, Come. Come exactly as you are … cracks, mistakes, messiness. Bring Me those fears that keep your heart in bondage. Fear of making the wrong choice. Fear of failure. Fear of missing out. Fear of being alone. Bring your anxieties into the light of My presence and safe community. I will meet you there. I will hear you and transform you.
Most of all, God is calling the older generation to mentor and pour into the younger generations. They are the future of our homes, families, church, community, and country. Did you know in ten years, the Millennials will be 75% of the entire workforce? They are the largest group of people to ever exist in all of history.
What are we waiting for?
God has made you and me for so much more than just sitting on the sidelines of life.
HE wants you and I to share our God stories the good, bad and the ugly to guide His next generation and to give Him all the glory. The Millennial generation has brokenness that needs healing and restoration and so do we!
Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
I say we stop joining the crowd of whiners who vent on social media about everything that’s wrong in our world and the younger generations. Let’s stop huddling in our caves feeling worried, alone and sad.
COMMITMENT
Let’s commit together to be there for each other and the future generations—not just in theory, but in the messy and painful and wonderful moments of life.
We can build a culture of supporting and nurturing and loving and celebrating each other’s uniqueness. Let’s listen and encourage and empower and speak life.
My life was changed for the better when one woman chose to pour into my life and many others have followed. These mentors invested in me with encouragement and affirmation and still do today.
Now it’s your turn. Step out. Challenge yourself. Go after the dreams God has put in your heart. Seek wise counsel. Surround yourself with people you can learn from . . . no matter what season of life you are in at this moment. Give yourself away. And even as you do, hold loosely to your dreams and tightly to your heavenly Father.
Remember, you can be “confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
