“Then David left his baggage in the care of the baggage keeper and ran to the battle line…” 1 Samuel 17:22
Do you overpack your bag when you are traveling or are you someone who will go light and only use your carry-on luggage?
It’s only the first week of 2015 and some of us are already tired from carrying last year’s old baggage into the New Year. Thank goodness, God has good news for you and I! We don’t have to carry around our heavy baggage of the past any longer. We can check our bags with Jesus. He doesn’t have fines or limits on how much our baggage weighs, where it’s from, or what the label says.
It may seem strange to some people, but God’s biggest joy is to take our baggage and lighten our load.
Dropping off our heavy baggage with Jesus is never an easy process but the end results are full of his promises.
In 1 Samuel 17, the Bible mentions how the shepherd boy, David, dropped off his bags at the gatekeeper and then walked forward into the battlefield. David knew he didn’t want anything to slow him down or hinder him from doing what was ahead of him. If you are looking for a great story of faith you may want to check out 1 Samuel chapters seventeen and eighteen!
David’s idea sounds like a good one to me! Do you need to drop off any baggage?
Be encouraged. It’s time to start the New Year with a new walk. Let’s give our baggage to Jesus right now and trust him to do amazing things. He desires to lift our burdens and guide our hearts. God is with us when we invite Him into our heart and ask him to be the leader of our daily lives. No matter what this troubled world faces from day to day, our God is trustworthy.
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19 (ESV)
Lord, help me to identify the baggage I need to drop off with You. I’ve been doing a lousy job on my own trying to manage my junk in my suitcase and I’m tired. Today, I’m checking my baggage with you. Lord, please take it! Forgive me for wanting complete control over my life. You’re God and I am not. I’m choosing to walk into this New Year hand in hand and side by side with You as Lord and Savior. I’m way overdue for a God adventure and right now is the time to start. Please God, rescue me again!
