“Because you have this faith, I now remind you to stir up that inner fire which God gave you.” 2 Timothy 2:6
Have you ever made your very own homemade chocolate milk? What happens when you pour Hershey’s Chocolate syrup into the glass of milk? If you said, “You get chocolate milk” you are incorrect.
When you pour the Hershey’s Chocolate syrup into the glass of milk it just drops to the bottom of the glass. Not until you grab a spoon and vigorously stir the milk will the white milk change into chocolate milk.
I am a visual person and just recently used this in a demonstration to help others connect with the way we can live our lives with the Holy Spirit.
You see, as a believer, we have the Holy Spirit inside of us just like the chocolate syrup poured into the glass of white milk. But unless we call on Him to move in our lives, the Holy Spirit will wait very patiently until the invitation is spoken. Throughout Scripture, the Holy Spirit has many descriptive names like Counselor, Intercessor, Comforter, Helper, and Giver. Have you been praying and inviting Him to work in your life?
Do you need comfort? Intercessory prayer? Counsel? Help?
Have you forgotten or overlooked the power of the Holy Spirit and your personal relationship with Him? Do you call on the Holy Spirit of God on a daily basis? Are you willing to begin today asking the Holy Spirit to move and stir up within you as you live your life for Christ? Then call on the power of the Holy Spirit!
Just like the chocolate syrup sitting on the bottom of the glass of white milk unless you are willing to take action and stir it up, the power of the Holy Spirit is being ignored. Let’s invite the Holy Spirit to move and stir up in our lives on a daily basis so we don’t miss the blessings and special opportunities God has planned for each one of us.
Scripture is very clear about how we need to stir up the inner fire within us.
“Because you have this faith, I now remind you to stir up that inner fire which God gave you at your ordination. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 6 (JBP)
“I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder.” 2 Peter 1:13 (ESV)
May I encourage you today as a Christ follower to grab a spoon and go ahead and “Stir up that inner fire!”
Dear Holy Spirit,
I give you complete permission to move in my life and remind me of the Scriptures I need to know and live out in my life today. Forgive me for ignoring you and doing life on my own. I need you Holy Spirit to intercede for me and guide me through my day and night. Oh Holy Spirit saturate my soul and move in a mighty way as you fill me from my head to my toes today! Amen!
